Meeting Roles and Responsibilities
This page is designed to help new members and guests to familiar with Toastmaster educational programs and different duties and roles in the meeting.
Perform different roles in the meeting will give you plenty of practice in a variety of communication experience.
Toastmaster:You will introduce Table Topics Master and speakers and conduct meetings. The main duty of the Toastmaster is to act as a genial host and conduct the entire program, including introducing participants.
Invocation:
You can use this opportunity to give a short speech to provide food for thoughts. Try not to use notes to give yourself maximum practice.
Timer:
The Toastmaster of the meeting will call on you to explain the timing rules. The table topics are 1-2 minutes. The evaluations are 2-3 minutes. The speeches are based on manual requirements. To qualify, one has to be within 30 seconds of the limit.
Grammarian / Ah Counter:
* Truly an exercise in expanding your listening skills. The Grammarian has two basic responsibilities: To introduce new words to members
* To comment on the use of English during the course of the meeting.
The purpose of the ah counter is to note words and sounds used as a "crutch" or "pause filler" by anyone who speaks during the meeting.
Table Topics:
The purpose of this period is to have members "think on their feet" and speak for a minute or so. This practice will build your "quick thinking " skills.
Table Topics Master please consider call on toastmasters who have little speaking roles that day first, so that everyone has an opportunity to speak at each meeting.
Speakers:
* Speaker #1:
* Speaker #2:
* Speaker #3:
New members start with the first speech manual including ten speeches. After you complete the first speech manual, you can apply for your Competent Toastmaster(CTM).
After you get your CTM, you can continue improving yourself following one or both of the requirements of two tracks- communication track and leadership track.
Communication track has three milestones: Advanced Toastmaster Bronze(ATM-B), Advanced Toastmaster Silver(ATM-S) and Advanced Toastmaster Gold(ATM-G).
Leadership track has two milestones: competent leader (CL) and Advanced leader(AL).
Continuing to push yourself and follow the requirements of Toastmaster educational program, you will get to the highest honor of Distinguished Toastmaster(DTM).
General Evaluator:
An evaluator of anything and everything that takes place throughout the meeting.
The General Evaluator also introduces the evaluators and calls on the Grammarian/Ah Counter & Timer for their reports.
Evaluators:
* Evaluator #1:
* Evaluator #2:
* Evaluator #3:
Evaluation is a critical part of the Toastmasters educational program. Evaluate the speech, not the person. Evaluate to promote the speaker's self-esteem.
Being an evaluator is a good practice. You have to listen well and then express your thoughts in a constructive way with little time to prepare.
